Submission Guidelines

We accept unpublished submissions (poetry, nonfiction, fiction) during our reading period:

September 1 through January 1.

Please send your submissions using the link below.

Include the following:

Cover letter to include the titles of the works you’re submitting, your phone number, and your email information (if different from the email address from which you’re submitting).

If you submit prose, include a word-count. If you submit poetry, include the number of lines or line-count.

Submit no more than four poems or one piece of fiction or nonfiction per submission.

Brief third-person bio (under 100 words)

Submit your work in a single Word attachment. Use 12-point Times Roman. Double space all prose; single space all poetry. Include your name and contact information (email and phone number) on each page.

    Important Additional Information—Please read!

If you can’t afford the $3 submission fee, please email your cover letter, bio, and submission directly to: leylinesliteraryreview@gmail.com, and I’ll waive the fee. This no-submission-fee offer is provided on an “on-your-honor” basis. That said, please be aware that every $3 (of which we receive $2.60) goes to pay our journal expenses. Eventually, we hope to use these fees to pay authors. All staff members volunteer their time.

While we have no word or line limit on the work that we publish, due to space limitations, we prefer shorter rather than longer work. Prose should be no longer than 5,000 words; poetry should be no longer than 80 lines.

Simultaneous submissions are welcomed, though we do ask that you let us know immediately if a poem you’ve submitted has been accepted elsewhere. All submissions must be original—and all writers own their copyright upon publication.

We do not publish AI-generated work or AI-partially generated work, and we rely on our writers to be ethical about this issue.

We do not publish previously published work.

We try to respond to submissions within a three-month period. Feel free to email us if you have not heard back from us within that time period.

We look forward to reading your work.
